Artist Statement

Paradoxically, ceramic artifacts are valued for their stability yet their physical substance, the mineral clay itself is evidence of change. Clay is made of yesteryear’s giants, the rocks that have succumbed to the forces of water, weather, time, and the organisms that once occupied the earth. Clay reminds us to look long into the past to see the future. This work captures a longing for permanence while accepting that the present hosts fragile existences, binding fates together.
